Phantom pain is very real. My amp was about 4 weeks ago and I have felt it every day, mostly in the evening and at night just when I want to relax or sleep. I feel mine in my foot and it is very sharp and burning, sometimes it feels like someone is squeezing my foot with big pliers. My leg was mangled and left hanging by little more than skin more than 30 years ago. Most of the nerves to my foot were severed. My foot was not injured but that was where I had constant pain for months. I am now having the exact same pains again. I take nothing during the day and take 1-3 percosets during the night to help me sleep. The only thing that really gets rid of the pain for me is sex. I have heard that after you start using your prosthesis it lessens and eventually goes away. Holding my stump or mentally ordering it to stop also helps. I have a neighbor who is an amputee who says his stops when he yells at it to stop. Good luck Tim Herb Rice Thank you Herb, I just needed to hear from someone who was aware of the same feelings I'm having my amputation is about one week behind yours and won't have a prothesis for another couple of weeks, well I will print your response and talk to my fiance' the sex thing sounds real good to me. nite time is the worst for me too. I find that I don't have any physical or surgical pain just the phantom sensations. Tim
