I have to say agree with both Ernie and Karen. I agree with Karen and I think its a healthy attitude to have, but like Ernie says (in so many words) don't kid yourself, people will believe what they want to believe, regardless of your great attitude. Now I may be making assumptions and probably am, and I am sorry if I am, but sunshine up the butt only goes so far. Yes, it is important to love yourself and love yourself as an amputee, but not everyone will. Some people will look upon us differently because of out disability, and you know what...THAT SUCKS! Plain and simple. It sucks, but what can we do? Yeah, it can bother us, and anyone who says that it doesn't bother them to some extent or another is a liar or in denial. Either way, it is up to each and every one of us to control our feelings so we can be happy and not bitter & pissed off. If I could have my leg back, I would in a minute, but I can't so I've decided to be happy any way. So Karen, I agree with your positive self talk. I don't ignore reality either. Having a positive attitude is only good for our own sanity. If I can make people more comfortable about people with disabilities by my own model, then good. If I can't, then screw em!
