: My girlfriend has had both legs above the knee removed due to bloodclots that kept causing heart attacks. She was on life support and it was the only answer. Thanks to the great doctors and surgeons and God my friend lives. I cannot go be with her right now and she is not able to take calls yet. Her family has let her know that I love her and thatI'll be there soon, and her sister-in -law wrote to you all and told me to come to you for help. Connie and I are ole runnin buddy's:)(I mean that as a metaphor), We sort of are the adventurist type and we would sometimes just get in the car and go to the Grand Canyon or anyplace we fancied. So just because her legs are gone I don't see why we shouldn't still go. Would it be wrong to say we can still go. I know that's the first thing she'll want to do as soon as she can. We had more fun dreamin about our adventures before we went than we had on the trips sometime. I want to plan ahead with her, if she want to. So what do I do? I don't want to do the wrong thing while trying too hard to do the right thing. I'm crying now because I don't know what to do:(:(:(( Help Hi, I can feel your pain. It's too soon to know what will happen to your friend. It all depends on her health, age and her attitude. What she needs now is support from her friends and family. She needs time to heal mentally and physically. It won't be easy for her. Just be there for her. Once she is able to talk to you on the phone call her every day. It will help the both of you. She also needs another bilateral above the knee amputee to help her. Hopefully the rehab she goes to will have a support group. She needs that support. I didn't have that and I sure could have used it. Just listen to her. As for the Grand Canyon, I was there last May. It was beautiful. My friends helped me get there and we had a great time. You will see. She can do it on wheels or on prothesis. Hope this helps.
