It usually takes an amputee two years to become "settled" in their life as an amputee. So say the psychologists, anyway. Your efforts will not go unrewarded. Yet you are not quite to the point of adopting the tools that would make your life easier (I can wait in line for hours, if need be) and conserve your strength for the most important parts of your life. I do not need to chase little kids about; however, I love to play tennis (wheelchair tennis) with as much enthusiam as I can muster. If I used the necessary energy to walk to get from A to B all the time, I would not have anything remaining with which to drive balls to the opposite baseline. So, one comes to an accomodation.
