: : Hi Tim - you aren'y going insane. Phantom pain is very real. My amp was about 4 weeks ago and I have felt it every day, mostly in the evening and at night just when I want to relax or sleep. I feel mine in my foot and it is very sharp and burning, sometimes it feels like someone is squeezing my foot with big pliers. My leg was mangled and left hanging by little more than skin more than 30 years ago. Most of the nerves to my foot were severed. My foot was not injured but that was where I had constant pain for months. I am now having the exact same pains again. I take nothing during the day and take 1-3 percosets during the night to help me sleep. The only thing that really gets rid of the pain for me is sex. I have heard that after you start using your prosthesis it lessens and eventually goes away. Holding my stump or mentally ordering it to stop also helps. I have a neighbor who is an amputee who says his stops when he yells at it to stop. Good luck Tim Herb Rice
Hey Herb: Thanks for the advise on Phantom Pains and sex, I would of never thought of that. Hey buddy how did the nurses feel about that? Next time I'm in the hospital I hope I don't get a male nurse. Also you said that you heard that wearing prosthesis will lessen something, is that the phantom pains or the sex drive. I think I'm slowing up a little bit so maybe I'll keep my legs off for a few days. Herb I'll let you know if that is true. Just joking around. Gerry C.
