stump pain

My son ( who is incarcerated )is having terrible stump pain.He just had the prosthesis shortened 1 inch but the pain is still bad.It hurts even just moving the stump.Someone in medical told him the nerves may have grown back.Is this possible?I have the medical record that describes what they did during the operation.
He also showed a low red blood cell count and high white blood count in January.The stump xrays showed some irregular changes and suggested a bone scan,which of course they won't do.Could this be a bone infection?Any help will be appreciated.......I intend to call the Health care Unit as soon as I can speak with some kind of knowledge...
