The good news is that child amputees usually adjust quickly and get on with life far better than the adults. The bad news is that being depressed around a child of any age makes the child feel bad. Children are very egocentric. The world revolves around them. Your first task is to become as upbeat as possible. You and, I am hoping, Dad need to be strong advocates for your daughter. Child prosthetics is a speciality. Not all Prosthetists are adept at fitting a child. Seek out Prosthetists who are skillful fitting children. If you live anywhere Oklahoma City, there is a center there that can help. An amputation seems like such a cruel thing to have happen to one's child. Yet, as many lives can attest, it need not hamper someone from having a full and happy life. To the left of this screen, you will find "Links and Support Groups." That will lead you to the National Limb Loss Institute and the Amputee Coalition of America. You can obtain much useful information from these resources. Very best wishes to you and yours, Karen
