I was originally fitted with a bad leg. It didn't fit well and caused bad sores ending up with me in the wheel chair. I have a good leg now, but am having trouble lea\learning to walk. I am so afraid of wallking that I usually walk stiffed legged. My gait looks nothing normal. Is anyonme l\else have this problem or can give me advice. I am married for 19 years with 4 children. I used to be so active. I look at people that walk of all ages and are extremely jealous. I miss my old life. Is there hope. I want to give away my crutches. : Thanks, : KATHY Kathy, I know how you feel. I've been an AKA since Sept. 99 and I've been fit with 3 bad legs so far! I'm glad to hear that you feel you now have a good leg. It is going to take a while to learn to walk with the new leg. I've found that it's not so much "learning to walk" with the new leg - it's the trying to "un-learn" how you used to walk with two good legs that's difficult. In that way, a prosthetic cannot compare. However, with patience and determination, you will learn to walk well again. The question I have for you is - have you had any physical therapy or instruction on "how to walk with a prosthetic leg"? Although some may not think it's necessary, it helped me a great deal. If not, then do yourself a favor and make some phone calls to arrange therapy and instruction for walking with the new leg. If you've already done that with the first/old leg, then perhaps a refresher course is in order. Nothing can compare to parallel bars for building confidence walking with the new leg. Good luck to you, please keep us posted. Tony G.
