Wow, I hadn't read this board lately so it took me a while to catch up on all the controversy. After reading all this I had these thoughts. What is really fabulous to me is that in 2002 (vs 1982 when I became AKA) there is this great forum for people to get info from other AKAs. Among other things, I think it helps all amputees to learn about new technology and to spread the news to help create demand and move things forward more quickly in the industry. This helps all amputees. The downside is that people learn more and hear about things that aren't yet generally accepted by insurance, there is this discussion, controversy, etc. The alternative in the past was that most everyone was just largely in the dark and at the mercy of their prosthetist. So I would hope people could just use this resource for what it is, not take stuff personally, try to have some empathy for others' situations, and make the most of the info to help make each person's situation a little better in whatever way they can. This is such a good thing to have - I can't imagine anyone getting in much of a negative spin over anything that goes on here. Okay, that is the end of my pontification.
