Has anyone else out there used a product called ShearBan to relieve skin irritations and sores caused by their socket? It's worked a miracle for me. I've been a right AK amputee for 28 years and have suffered with skin sores and folliculitus (like pimples) along the medial brim of the socket (groin area) for all those years. My prosthetists and I have worked long and hard to get a good fit and relieve the skin problems. My leg would feel good for a couple hours and then the skin would start to hurt. The more hours I wore the leg in a day, the more my skin would hurt and eventually it would rub off. I planned my entire life and all my activities around how many hours i could wear my prosthesis without getting a sore, how my folliculitus was doing, etc.,etc. Now I don't have to. This last Fall I was having a new (suction-socket) prosthesis made and my prosthetist and I were once again trying to figure out how to relieve the skin irritations and pain I was having along the medial brim. We had pretty much run out of ideas when he said he had been given a sample of a product called ShearBan and maybe we should try it. I couldn't believe it but it gave me immediate relief from the pain I was experiencing. I've had it in my socket for a couple months now and the skin irritations and sores I had for 28 years are gone. I got on the web when I got home and found out that ShearBan is a self-stick teflon sheet that is designed to reduce the shear/friction forces in a prosthesis or brace. Anyone interested can get more info at www.oandp.com/products/tamarack/shearban.htm and www.beckerortho.com/shearban/techinfo.htm. I can wear my prosthesis for hours and hours now. It's wonderful! Has anyone else out there used it or even heard of it? Cathy
