I think connecting with other amputees was the most helpful to me. Certainly use this board but try to connect with someone locally as well. I think it is just so helpful for others to share and validate what you are going through. I lost my leg when I was 13 and the feeling that I most remember was embarrassment. That seems pretty shallow but at 13 it was probably pretty normal - there just wasn't anyone around to tell me it was normal.
I also think getting involved in some kind of physical activity as soon as you are able is really good. Swimming is pretty easy to adjust to if you like it in the first place.
