I agree with the last post, that being you need to get with a physical therapist to work on gait training. This will help you to learn about how your prothstetic works, and how you can make it work for you.It will build confidence in your use of your prothstetic. Remember...everything in it's own time...it might take you more than a year to lose the crutches completely(though I still use my 'Canadian crutches',with an ice auger attached, when we have bad weather, here in Colorado. Keep your stump, well moisterized, and free from small abraisions, as these grow quickly, if you don't correct them quickly...stay ahead of the game, and inspect your stump regularly, and don't let small pains turn into pressure sores,or open cuts. Remember, we all take 'one step at a time,! You'll be walking with confidence, soon enuogh. It took me ,about a year and a half, and a good fitting socket to walk without my crutches...though, I also had major bypass surgery prior to my amputation.Try that 'Golden Gel' they speak of in the forum, or contact 'OTTO BOCK.com' for their products which help to keep your stump healthy. Hopefully, some of this will help... Ric A.
