Now let me explain to you my situation. I was born without my right foot so I am a BK so my situation is going to be different than yours as a AK. If I was in your situation with them talking bone graphs, very little mobility and also still possible pain I think I would opt for the amputation. Yes having an amputation there will be pain but with time it will get better.(I had a revision surgery on 8/1/02 and my pain is getting better every day, I'm almost pain free). Being an amputee is not the end of the world if it was my time in this world would be up many years ago. Prosthetics have come a long way since I started wearing a prosthesis in 1968. My life has been very active I run, swim, ice skate, roller skate, play all kinds of sports including soccer, baseball, sporting clays, skeet, and my new endervour will be to run a marathon or two maybe more not sure yet. Yes there are people who will tell you not to amputate but I for one say your life will be better with the amputation you will be able to have a good quality of life. I have and I am proud to be an amputee. Go to a support group for amputees and talk to them and see what they say. Good Luck with your decision. P.S here is a chat room you might want to join and talk to other amputees it is also a message board. http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/4AmpsbyAmps www.m3racer.com and www.amputee-center.com
