: Anyone have a problem with their skin breaking down on the medial wall of their socket? And if so what have you done to relieve the problem if ever possible modification has been done to the socket by the prosthetist.

Hi Kevin,

Early on, in being fit with my socket, this was a major problem. The prosthetist tried to pad the medial brim with cushy material; he tried to thin out the medial wall of the socket so it would be thinner, softer and more flexible and more "forgiving"; but what helped the most was a volume adjustment in the size of the socket. It did't take much, but by tightening up the hold on the soft tissue of the stump, it kept me from going down so hard on that medial wall. Deciding whether to tighten up the whole socket (like adding a one ply sock)or to take the space out of one area (like a pad in the front)...well this is where trial & error come in plus patience of patient & prosthetist. It can be accomplished as you should have no irritation or open skin area anywhere. Donna
