amputation or notPosted by amy on November 20, 19102 at 11:18:16:
Hi Brian. In response to your question regarding amputation, I myself would give anything to have my leg back. I suffered pelvic fractures, rod in my femur, crushed tib\fib as well as crushed ankle in my "sound" limb. My other leg was amputated above the knee. I too would agree that with patience and appropriate physical therapy your fractures and pain may heal. one thing for certain is that once the knee goes, it never returns. My doctors literally had no choice. The leg was too damaged to even consider saving. It is true that technology is fantastic in the prosthetic world as I am even lucky enough to work for a prosthetist as a tech. However after two years of being an amputee and not only dealing with my own challenges but those of our clients, I would truly hope that amputation will not be your decision unless there is just no hope of saving you leg. Being an AK is really not the end of the world. It is all in the attitude and how you view yourself, but Brian, if there is any hope to heal your leg I would say go for that rather then removing the pain. Very interesting topic. Thankyou.
