: I had my leg removed from the hip. I have a prosthesis I know exactly what you are going through. Usually people don't hear it unless you are in a really quiet room---like a doctors office or in some other kind of waiting room where you don't know anyone. So, I have become very friendly. What I do, is say something to whoever is waiting in the room with me when I start to stand up and am trying to press all the air out of the socket. Whether this really covers it up or not, it makes me think it does. But, I also agree. Who cares! Some times I just let my leg pass gas and then say to whoever it listening, "Peg just has no manners whatsoever." Then I walk off with a smile on my face because of the bewildered look on their faces wondering who Peg is. Just between you and me, I named my prosthesis Peg five years ago. Some of my friends affectionately call me Peggysue now. But, the moral of the story is that "we all get over it." Take care, Sue D.
