Dear Cherry, I've read numorous message boards re: amputees. I now know that impatience runs amuck in the whole lot of us. Impatience is generally considered a character flaw, however, it seems to serve us well in our determination to handle being an AKA and getting back to an upright position. I'll never forget the feeling of standing at the mirror for the first time after the accident to put on my makeup. However, stand was all I could do. I hadn't learned how to make this wonderful piece of equipment work yet! You see, I figured that since it cost 20K plus, it was like my car and it would just run on it's own. Make good use of your wheel chair time and get in the best physical shape you can possibly be in. I think a prothesis is without a doubt the most difficult piece of sports equipment that I have conquered. Yes, I called it sports equipment. This walking stuff is quite a skill and you will master it too. Go to M3Racer.com and find some exercises to do while you wait. Good Luck! You'll be on all fours (This is what my husband calls it. He is a Veterinarian) before you know it. Sue
