Bev,
It is incorrect for Regence/Blue Shield to refer to the C-Leg as merely a "Delux" model. We are not talking about automobiles here. The issue is safety and efficacy. The fact that you are 61 is not as important as the fact that you are active. Sixty-One used to be old but it ain't necessarily so today. Also, if a crutch or cane gives you, a one legged person, a greater feeling of security when you are on unfamiliar terrain, so what? Any of us who have fallen and broken bones (as I have on 2 occasions) while wearing 'Un-Delux' prosthetics with the 'dumb knee' understand your insecurity. After all how many times can you bounce back from boken bones?

I have come to think of these devices as having a 'smart knee' or a 'dumb knee'. In reality, a knee that senses and measures what you are about to do based on your position and then acts to support your activity without your having to think about it, is smart. It is a friend that is trying to help you to be safe while you are being active and attempting to live a normal life of good quality. That's the C-Leg. It's not 'Delux' but it does cost more for that extra brain. On the other hand the 'dumb knee' is a hydraulic that will let you down, without a moments notice, if your own brain is not working overtime. It is merely a tool and has no brain of its own.

My advice to you to appeal immediately. This is not a fashion show it is about the quality of YOUR life. Delux indeed!!! THAT IS AN OUTRAGEOUS AND UNSUPPORTABLE REASON TO DENY YOU A HEALTH BENEFIT AND RELEGATE YOU TO A LOWER QUALITY OF LIFE THAN YOU SHOULD HAVE.

: I'm trying to appeal for a c-leg -my insurance Regence/Blue shield turned it down as a "Delux" model. I'm 61 years now and fairly active -volunteering and shopping and visiting but still use a crutch on one side for support and safety. any helpful advice and also how many of you with C-legs still use a cane or crutch outside? Thanks bev
