If suicide is a "sin", it must be a rational choice...the idea being that humans were given the capacity for rational choice in order that they could "turn away from sin" by their own *free will.* I'm more inclined to believe that suicide is not a "rational" choice at all, but rather the end-stage of a terrible disease called depression. It's not about self-pity...I lost my leg less than two years ago, and just last night was wallowing in a big pit of self-pity, but I've never come close to considering suicide. And that's not a self-righteous proclamation; rather, it points out that this poor man did suffer from a disease, and died from it...and *that* is a tragedy. The *reason* people give for killing themselves is just a rationalization...often it's over something a lot *less* than losing a limb, like a bad breakup...the real reason is the brain chemistry changes related to the depression. - David
