I participated in a similar study conducted by the University of Alberta and the Glenrose Rehab Hospital 3 years ago. C-Leg users were asked to walk and run at varying angles of ascent and descent while cardio, pulminary, energy usage, and effort where measured. The volume of oxygen consumed, energy output, and standard cardio-pulmonary rates were specifically measured. The tests were then repeated with the patient wearing their conventional passive hydraulic knee prosthesis.

The comparison, in my case, yielded and 60% reduction in enrgy usage, extended stamina, and reduction in gait degeneration (as you tire).

As most others have commented, the C-Leg has a very dramatic positive impact on AK amps compared to passive hydraulic knee systems. In addition to the energy conservation, the increased safety and ability to ambulate on drastically varying surfaces are substantial. Combined with the ability to change cadence (walk to run to walk) with no effort make the C-Leg my only choice for prosthetics.
