Hi Talyia,

Best wishes to your Mom, and kudos to you for helping her gather information, that's the smartest thing you can do.

I think contact with other amputees would be valuable for your Mom, and a good place to start. This way she can see first hand that she can live a full, productive and happy life, in spite of losing her leg. Check for amputee support groups in your area (either through your local hospital, a local Prosthetist, or do an Internet search) and then either someone can visit your Mom or she can attend a meeting before her surgery and gather more info for herself.

Good luck and keep us posted!
Cheri
P.S. Another good starting point is the ACA website: www.amputee-coalition.org
