I have been an above the knee amputee for almost 15 years.As far as how long it will take that really is up to how fast you heal.The limb can be built in just a few weeks.(If the parts you need are readily available,most are)All together not more than a month give or take a day.There is a new limb for above the knee amputees it is called a C-leg.It is computerized.I have one it is great.I plug it up at night(to charge it) and unplug in the morning.It has stumble recovery.That means it can keep me from hitting the ground when I walk.It thinks faster than my brain does.I love it.Please talk to your prothetist about whether or not you would be a good candidate for the C-leg.It is as close to a real limb as you can get right now.I dont know where you are,but I do know medicare and some states medicaid does pay for this leg.Some major insurances as well.Good luck to you and keep on strutting.Feel free to e-mail me if you have questions or just want to chat.
