: The MAS socket was designed by a Mexican prosthetist - Marlo Ortiz. I have been working with my prosthetist on mine since August last year. It is a very precise socket. A lot of prosthetists are making a socket similar to the MAS, but if they haven't been trained by Marlo or his assistant - THEY CAN'T DO IT. Period.

: We have finally reached a point where I can say that we can make the definitive socket. We have been through at least 12 test sockets.

: The MAS definitely gives you more freedom of movement. It has very low trimlines at the front (you can bend right down and touch your toes) and you sit on your own behind. No more rubbing holes in your trousers.

: We tried for the first few months with a straight suction MAS, but I was finding it very difficult to get it on right and keep comfortable. With just a little bit of sweat, the socket would move, and the ear would nail me. Then we tried with a silicone liner. It took me a while to get used to the liner, but now I think that perhaps a MAS socket needs one, because it has stopped any rotation problems, and becuase I am not sinking too low into the socket, the ear and the shelf are not hurting me.

: The MAS diaries are on http://allyrakamputee.beplaced.com

: This socket is not easier to don than any other AK socket. It's exactly the same donning procedure as an IC or Quad socket.

: You have to make sure that your prosthetist is certified to make the MAS by Marlo, and if he/she is new at this design, then please wear your test socket for as long as you can. I have been wearing my last one for well over a month now, and I have asked for 2 more weeks. But all in all, I think we are there.

: People have commented that I am walking with an improved gait, and I am feeling quite safe with this socket now.

: My prosthetist took me for a CT scan - that is how precise the measurements need to be. And then we still had to do a bit of fiddling with the shelf. My leg man really got creative to make this MAS work. It's been a long haul for us.

: If anyone has any questions that the diaries don't cover, please feel free to message me.

: Final verdict - I like this socket. I wouldn't go back to an IC or quad.

: : : I have not used this socket, as your post was the first time I heard about it, But after checking it out on the internet.I feel this is the socket I should have, for it is supposed to
: : improve all the things that have become more difficult for me as I grow older, especially since I turned 80. Such as be more comfortable while sitting, easier to don, and have no difficulty or pain wearing it for a longer period of time.

: : I'm so thankful I discovered this information now, so I can discuss it with my pro before getting a new leg,

: : I thank you for seeking answers here, and hope we both can get the improvements and answers we are looking for..

Thank you for the most helpful info.
