I just turned 40, and have noticed a huge difference in my metabolism. However, I had a few other factors in my life that I believe triggered the dreaded weight gain. One thing was an ill fitting prosthesis, therefore I wasn't as active, and it didn't seem to take long for the pounds to creep on. For me, I know it's as simple as needing to burn more calories than I'm taking in, which means more exercise!! : Good luck, Cheri, I think I've found something that finally helps get my metabolism up - I bought a mini exerciser thru Sharper Image. I had used one in the hospital's rehab dept but at the time didn't have the energy to like it. I put it on my sturdy dining table and use my hands in the cuff.bars and now have gotten up to 15 minutes at least 5 days a week. I have a radio on that helps with the boredom. It's been a month now but I can now slowly start to see improvement, especially in my belly area. I can't use it for my feet as the prosthetic side just seems to hang up. But I can tell that I can get my heart rate up and can tell that I've had a work out. I also have cut out any sweets. But I look better in my jeans already. The stretch band exercises and hand weights just didn't get my metabolism up to do any good.
